Trouble In Paradise

Monday morning, update #2: More information trickled out overnight. From people.com:

PEOPLE has learned that a producer allegedly witnessed a drunken sexual encounter between two cast members. It is not clear if charges have been brought against the cast member involved. Warner Bros. has not commented on the specific allegations brought against the cast member.

“It’s an incredibly difficult and complicated situation, primarily involving two contestants,” the source close to the show told PEOPLE “The show absolutely values the primacy of consent, and this instance it appears as though conduct allegedly occurred without the proper consent having been given. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, and a lot of people who need a chance to tell their stories fully, and the producers and the authorities will make sure they are given every opportunity to do so. Most of all, everyone wants to ensure the safety and well-being, both mentally and physically, of all parties involved.”

A source added the the show will likely not continue filming, but that has not yet been confirmed by Warner Bros.

And from TMZ (with apologies for the language):

Here's DeMario's version of events, as told by people with whom he spoke:

Last Sunday -- the first day of production at a Mexican resort -- DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios were told by producers one of the story lines would be the 2 of them hooking up ... especially entertaining because both are considered villains from previous shows.

We're told the 2 met at the bar and the alcohol was flowing. DeMario says Corinne jumped in his lap and started making out with him. We're told there was lots of "intense rubbing."

DeMario says Corinne then suggested they retreat to the pool, with the cameras rolling. They took off their clothes, started making out and "rubbing, touching and fingering." He says she put her genitals in his face and he began licking, but we're told this allegation is a big point of contention and others disagree with his account. He says he was not able to engage in intercourse because of the alcohol.

DeMario says the next day everything was fine and he and Corrine were actually getting along well, but on Tuesday they were called in by the Executive Producer and told one of the show producers had seen the film and was "uncomfortable" with what was shot.

The producer has filed a formal complaint with Warner Bros. Warner brass immediately suspended production, launched an investigation and released DeMario and Corrine. Two days later Warner Bros. released the entire cast while they investigated alleged "misconduct."

As we said, there are other versions of what happened that differ from DeMario's.

The most interesting phrase in the TMZ account? Demario and Corinne were "told by producers one of the story lines would be the 2 of them hooking up..." Just a reminder that almost nothing on these shows happens organically. It's almost all orchestrated by producers. The question becomes, How much is too much? How far is too far? Wherever that line is, apparently Demario and Corinne crossed it, with the assistance of too much alcohol. This is turning into an ugly story all around.

Update #1: Corinne was the "villain" on Nick's season; Demario was given a villain edit on his (very short) tenure on Rachel's season. Are the two of them really responsible for shutting down production on Bachelor In Paradise? As I said below, I'm very curious to know what happened.

Original post:

Apparently something bad happened on the set of Bachelor In Paradise. Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and TMZ are all reporting that production has been suspended due to "allegations of misconduct." I first read about it at people.com:

The Bachelor/ette franchise spinoff Bachelor in Paradise, which is currently filming its fourth season in Mexico, has stopped production due to what the production company is calling a “misconduct.”

“We have become aware of allegations of misconduct on the set of Bachelor in Paradise in Mexico,” Warner Bros. said in a statement. “We have suspended production and we are conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations. Once the investigation is complete, we will take appropriate responsive action.”

Reality Steve is also on it:

It's easy to snark about this. If The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are silly shows, Bachelor In Paradise is sillier, which makes it easy to forget that the whole franchise is big business, both for the production company and ABC. Bachelor In Paradise is a key element of ABC's summer schedule and if the show is really cancelled that's a big, big deal. There's now a hole in the schedule that will have to be filled, not to mention another black eye on the franchise. We're only three episodes into Rachel's season, and from a business perspective, as well as a creative/entertainment perspective, this is so not what anyone wanted to happen. I admit I'm curious to learn more.
