The Guessing Game - Updated

What will be on the cover of People this week? My guesses. in no particular order:

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor: Today is Archie's 1st birthday, Harry and Meghan have said they'll release a new picture to mark the occasion. Another possibility is Princess Charlotte, who turned five on Saturday
Michelle Obama: The Netflix documentary Becoming, based on her best-selling book, debuts today
Anderson Cooper: A new baby via surrogate
Nick Cordero: The broadway star is still in a coma, not recovering well from a vicious case of COVID 19
Gigi Hadad: She's pregnant, Zayn Malik (not Tyler Cameron, haha,) is the father
Lori Zillow: She's back in court, her children are still missing
Michael Jordan: The 10-part ESPN series is a big hit; the finale airs May 17
The Bachelor: A 10-episode retrospective will air this summer, taking the place of The Bachelorette. Apparently they're hoping to begin filming Clare's season in July. Former Bachelor Peter has confirmed that he is dating Kelley, who appeared on his season and came in 5th
Nikki Bella: A new memoir
Natalie Wood: A new HBO documentary, produced by her daughter

Stories that appear on the new cover will be highlighted in green.

Last week it was another HGTV cover. and just like Chip and Joanna Gaines when they appeared on their first cover, I have literally never heard of these people:

The Guessing Game - Updated/Bindi Irwin's Wedding

What will be on the cover of People this week? My guesses, a short list this week because the coronavirus is still the biggest news story:

NY Governor Andrew Cuomo: Demonstrating leadership in a time of crisis, his daily briefings are now a must see, not to mention a stark contrast to the raving lunacy of Donald's daily rantings. (In September, People ran a story titled "Five things to know about Gov. Andrew Cuomo," read it here. I also wrote about the governor, back in February, 2014; you can read that here. As you read, remember that when I wrote it, the idea that Donald, for whom the phrase "messy personal life" doesn't begin to cover it, would actually become president was both inconceivable and unthinkable.)
Prince Charles: Has the coronavirus, apparently a fairly mild case
Harry and Meghan: They've moved to Los Angeles (Update on Tuesday 3/31: Today is their official last day as "senior working royals")
Bindi Irwin: Married
Bachelor Ben Higgins: Engaged. In other Bachelor news, Peter Weber was seen in Chicago with Kelly, in defiance of the shelter-in-place order and Hannah B has been seen with Tyler Cameron
Tiger King: I don't even know what this is, but all of a sudden, it's everywhere

Stories that appear on the new cover will be highlighted in green.

Update on Monday morning: The Tokyo Summer Olympics: They've now officially been postponed until July, 2021.
Elton John: He and other musicians gave a televised "concert from home" last night
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson: They're home from Australia

Update #2 on Wednesday morning. It's a Celebrity Wedding cover this week, featuring Bindi Irwin, her new husband and a very cute koala bear. Secondary headlines include Harry and Meghan's move to L.A. and a Covid-19 story, this one about nurses and doctors.

The Guessing Game/The Coronavirus Crisis - Updated

People has posted the new cover a day early, and no surprise, the entire cover is dedicated to the coronavirus crisis, although this might not be the final version. There may be a couple of secondary headlines across the top when the actual magazine comes out:

Issue dated March 30, 2020: The coronavirus, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
Image

I hadn't published the Guessing Game post yet; this is what I had on the list:

Property Brothers: A new show with celebrities
Peter, Hannah Ann, Madison: This season of The Bachelor was a complete disaster. Two whole days after the finale aired, Peter and Madison broke up. Another possibility is Chris Harrison and/or new Bachelorette Clare Crawley, because filming on her season, which was supposed to start this past Friday, has been delayed at least two weeks
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and/or Idris Elba: Celebrities who have the coronavirus
Hope Hicks: The former White House Communications Director, who's returning to the White House as a counselor the president, is dating a 51-year old
Sarah Palin: A very weird appearance on The Masked Singer, just seconds before Donald's weird Oval Office speech
Dr. Anthony Fauci: A true hero of the current health crisis
Brittney Snow: Married
Hannah Brown and/or Tyler Cameron: They've been seen together recently. (Read more here.) Also, Tyler's best friend, Matt James, has been chosen to be on Clare's season of The Bachelorette
Laura Benanti: The Broadway star has invited high-schoolers to send her video of them singing in their Spring Musicals, most of which have now been canceled
Matt and Trevor Colvin: Two brothers in Tennessee who tried to cash in by selling hand sanitizer and antiseptic wipes at outrageous prices. Unfortunately for them, Amazon and eBay have now cracked down on price gouging. I believe the brothers have donated their excess inventory
Tom Brady: Announces he'll be leaving the New England Patriots, as a free agent he's available to be signed by another team

Stories that appear on the new cover have been highlighted in green.

The Bachelor Betrayal, Part 3? (Possible spoiler) - Updated

Remember this?

photo | Engagements, Reality TV, The Bachelor, Jason Mesnick, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna

And this?

Image result for People magazine covers March 2019 Arie Luyendyk

Word on the street is that we may see the same situation tonight and tomorrow night. Did Peter get engaged to one woman in Australia, then dump her and beg the runner-up to take him back, following in the footsteps of Jason and Arie? Maybe.

For what it's worth, both of the couples pictured above are now married and parents to a child. Jason and Molly just celebrated their 10th anniversary. I'm betting that Arie and Lauren won't last that long, but still. These two couples represent double the number of Bachelors who have actually married the woman they proposed to on the show. (There's just one, Sean Lowe. He and Catherine now have three children.)

Will Peter be the third member of the Bachelor Betrayal club? We'll know soon. And why did ABC announce the new Bachelorette early? Usually they hold the surprise until the last night of the finale, which would be tonight. One thought: If Peter really does "pull an Arie," think about Becca. There was so much sympathy and affection for her in Bachelor Nation that she was the obvious choice for Bachelorette. Would the same thing happen to Hannah Ann if Peter dumps her to get Madison? Probably, but my guess is ABC doesn't want Hannah Ann in the lead role. She's just too young. (As is Madison.) Selecting Clare and announcing her early solves the problem without having to reject Hannah Ann.

Update on Wednesday morning. Wow, just wow. Ben Flajnik in 2012 was the last Bachelor who didn't get even a tiny little secondary headline on People during the week his finale aired. This week, no sign of Peter:

Issue dated March 23, 2020: Harry, Meghan, William and Kate

More to come...

Update #2. What a surprise:

I want to start by acknowledging the incredible group of women that I had the privilege of getting to know this season. Thank you for coming on this journey with me. I learned so many lessons from all of you that I will carry with me. Madi, thank you for your patience and unconditional love. You’re the epitome of a woman who carries herself with grace, stands by what she believes in, and loves whole heartedly. That love is something I feel so grateful to have felt and will take a piece of that with me always going forward. Madi and I have mutually decided to not pursue our relationship any further. Believe me this was not easy for either of us to be ok with, but after a lot of honest conversations, we have agreed that this is what makes most sense for the two of us. The love and respect I have for Madi will continue to endure. Hannah Ann, you set an example for women everywhere a couple nights ago. You are such a strong, confident woman and you deserve all the love in the world. I accept full responsibility for my mistakes in our relationship and wish you only the best. This has been an emotional experience and I am so grateful for the outreach of support that I have received from friends, family, and Bachelor Nation in the last few days. Thank you to all of you! This is just a another chapter in my story. One I will never forget and one I will always cherish ❤️

The Guessing Game - Updated

With Christmas on Wednesday, the new issue of People will probably be published early. What will be on the cover? My guesses:

Donald Trump: The third president to be impeached. So far, the only cover story about Donald during his presidency was in July, 2017 when the Russia scandal started to heat up:

Issue dated July 31, 2017

Will the first issue of 2020 feature a picture of Donald and a big headline that says "Impeached!" Maybe.

Other possibilities:

Teresa and Joe Giudice: The reality couple has separated
JK Rowling: Controversy over her support for transphobic comments
Channing Tatum and Jessie J: They broke up
Prince Philip: Hospitalized on Friday Dec 20, he's still there as I'm writing on Sunday. In other royal news, Harry and Meghan are spending the holidays in Canada, and the Queen, Princes Charles, William and George posed for a cute picture. (See it here.)
Peter Weber: His season of The Bachelor starts January 6
Camille Schrier: The new Miss America is a scientist who is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree #SmartWomen
Hillary Duff: Married
Eddie Murphy: Returned to Saturday Night Live after 35 years
Emanuel Ungaro: The French fashion designed died at age 86

Stories that appear on the new cover will be highlighted in green.

Update: Click here to see the new cover, dated January 6, 2020 and featuring Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow. You'll also see the January 13 cover, which is the annual Half Their Size issue. I didn't do a Guessing Game post for that one.

The Guessing Game - Updated

What will be on the cover of the last issue of 2019? My guesses:

Greta Thunberg: Named Time's Person of the Year at age 16. Donald was not happy
Royals: One more Meghan/Kate cover? Prince Andrew? Prince Charles, who got good reviews for his part in punishing Andrew? A story wondering where Harry and Meghan are? It's all possible
Dan Spilo: A Survivor contestant, he was removed from the show due to an inappropriate incident (read more here)
Colin Firth: Separated from his wife
Hunter Biden: His new wife is expecting
Megyn Kelly: She's speaking out about the new movie Bombshell, part of a Frontline documentary
Olivia Wilde: A controversial role in the new movie Richard Jewell
Danny Aiello: Died
D'Wan Sims: 25-year-old man thinks he may have been abducted as a child (read more here)
Alex Bozarjian: A TV reporter, she was covering a roadrace live when a man slapped her rear-end as he ran by. He's now been arrested on a misdemeanor charge. (Read more here)
Evan Lysacek: A very lavish wedding in Thailand
Chris Harrison: He has a new website, "ChrisHarrisonOfficial.com," where he's now available for hire to officiate at weddings. More interesting to me, the Bachelor mansion is also now available for rental for events, workshops, conferences and seminars. Weddings too, presumably.

In other Bachelor news, Jason Mesnick's season is now streaming on Netflix. I'm not sure why, or for how long, but it's there. And one more thing: Britt Bryne, formerly Britt Nilsson, who was on Chris Soules' season of The Bachelor, just announced that she is pregnant.

Stories that appear on the new cover will be highlighted in green.

Update on Tuesday morning. Mariah Carey: Her 25-year-old song, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," is now #1 on the Billboard chart.

The Guessing Game - Updated

What will be on the cover of People this week? My guesses:

Simone Biles: Broke the all-time record, male or female, for medals at the gymnastics World Championships
Anne Sacoolas: The American wife of a diplomat serving in the U.K., Sacoolas is accused of hitting and killing a British teenager while driving on the wrong side of the road. Claiming diplomatic immunity, she returned to the U.S. The dead boy's distraught parents are insisting immunity be waived
Hunter Biden: Still in the news. ABC interviewed him over the week-end, it will air on several ABC shows beginning tomorrow
Peter Weber: The next Bachelor was injured while golfing on an off day in Costa Rica. Question: who carries two cocktail glasses while climbing into a golf cart?
Matt Lauer, Brook Nevils and/or Ronan Farrow: Farrow's new book includes a claim from Nevils that Lauer raped her during the Sochi Olympics. Lauer claims their sexual encounters were consensual
Marie Osmond and the Osmond Brothers: The original 4 will perform for the final time on today's episode of The Talk
Coleen Rooney: A bizarre feud on Twitter, did Rebekah Vardy give false stories to a tabloid. based  on items in Rooney's personal Instagram account? (Who are these people? They're the wives of big-deal soccer players in England.) (Read more here)
Shep Smith: In a surprise on Friday, Smith announced he was leaving Fox News. Was he fired or did he resign?
Carson King: Donated over $3 million dollars to a children's hospital after his "need money for beer" sign went viral
James Middleton: Kate's brother is engaged
Tyler Skaggs: A Los Angeles Angels employee claims to have provided Skaggs with the drugs that killed him
Coco Gauff: The 15-year-old phenom won her first Singles title and is now ranked in the Top 100
Joe Giudice: Released by ICE and now in Italy, Giudice will continue to fight extradition

Sexiest Man: Not for this week, but it's time to start thinking about the 2019 Sexiest Man. People usually announces the newly-crowned winner in early November. Right now I have no guesses for who it might be this year; here are the previous winners:

1985 Mel Gibson
1986 Mark Harmon
1987 Harry Hamlin
1988 John Kennedy, Jr.
1989 Sean Connery

And one more thing. Remember this?:

Image result for rudy giuliani on cover of People magazine

It's from 18 years ago, when Rudy Giuliani was in the process of dumping his second wife and taking up with his third. (Read the cover story, dated May 28, 2001, here.) I don't really think People will put Rudy on the cover this week, but if they want to, all they have to do is swap out the pictures and change a few words because history is repeating itself. (Wow, is it possible that Rudy isn't a very nice man?) Rudy is done with wife number three, as explained by the Washington Post in an article titled "Third time was not the charm: Rudy Giuliani's latest divorce is bitter, expensive and very public"

It starts with this:

In the “What on earth happened to Rudy Giuliani?” sweepstakes, there are plenty of entries but no winners. Everyone wants to know why “America’s Mayor” became President Trump’s favorite consigliere.

Here’s one factor: He’s in the midst of a very bitter, very expensive, very public divorce. (A moment of silence, please, for the death of romance — especially when there’s no prenuptial.) Perhaps the contentious end of his third marriage is a distraction?

... includes this:

Giuliani, 75, is leaving this marriage the same way he entered it: with blaring headlines, tabloid updates and so much drama.

“He digs it,” says Ken Frydman, spokesman for his 1993 mayoral campaign. “He loves the attention. It’s sport for him — and a lack of judgment.”

In May 2000, New York’s two-term mayor called a news conference and announced a separation from his second wife, television anchor Donna Hanover. It was also a public acknowledgment of his year-long relationship with Judith Nathan, whom he praised as a “very, very fine woman.” The separation, however, was allegedly a surprise to his wife, who said she found out her 16-year marriage was ending by watching television.

A surprise, but also not surprising: Hanover started dating Giuliani when he was married to his first wife, Regina Peruggi. An eternal mystery: When the mistress becomes the wife, why is she shocked when another mistress enters the scene? (“Job opening,” goes the old joke.)

... Nathan and Giuliani met in 1999 at Club Macanudo, an East Side cigar bar. Nathan, divorced from her second husband, was a hospital sales rep and a trained nurse. Across the room: Mayor Giuliani. Sparks flew.

“It was the thunderbolt,’’ he told the New York Times. “Our attraction was instantaneous. There was almost something mystical about the feeling.’’

Soon, the two were inseparable, except for the quality time he spent with his wife and two children.

The affair was not, shall we say, discreet. Nathan accompanied the mayor to a number of official functions and stayed at his side during his treatment for prostate cancer, which led to his divorce lawyer’s TMI revelation in 2001 that the cancer had rendered Giuliani impotent and the two had not had sex for a year. They were not ones to let the marriage of true minds admit impediments, so love flourished.

... and ends with this:

Judith Giuliani, 64, receives $42,000 a month in alimony, an amount she claims is peanuts compared with the $230,000 per month they spent as a couple, according to the New York Times. Her lawyer, Bernard Clair, reported that Giuliani earned millions working at the law firm Greenberg Traurig: Almost $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017. He also claims that by working pro bono for Trump, his client’s husband is deliberately concealing income and working with people who will have to “reimburse him” at a later date.

Giuliani, on the other hand, is pleading poverty. Because he is working for free and paying his own expenses, his lawyer says he can’t afford to support his wife in the lifestyle to which she became accustomed and had to borrow money to pay taxes.

“My reason for working for President Trump for free is wholly and entirely patriotic, and also because he is my friend,” he told the New York Post.

Meanwhile, they’re reportedly fighting over everything: money, Christmas decorations, remote controls and who gets to hang out in which of the private clubs to which they belong.

Judge Michael Katz told the couple: “It is beyond me why either party in this case would have an interest in having all of this done publicly.” Settling, he said, “would treat their relationship and marriage with more respect than divulging all our dirty laundry out for public consumption.”

That’s not happening. There is some chatter in New York that Judith Giuliani is writing a book — or it might be a savvy negotiating tactic for someone with no prenuptial and a good memory.

The Giulianis’ next court date is scheduled for January.

SPOILER: The Next Bachelor

Spoiler: If you don't want to know who the next Bachelor is until ABC announces his name Tuesday night, don't read this post.

*********************************************************************************

The rumors are out there that Peter Weber, aka Pilot Pete, is the next Bachelor and it looks like they're right:

I had been wondering if his employer, Delta Airlines, would be featured by name and it looks like it will be. Will the international travel be on Delta too? I assume so. And a note to producers: Please, please, please, keep the windmill references to a minimum.
