Happy Thanksgiving! An ungrateful turkey whacks President Nixon after the president pardoned him in the Rose Garden, 1970. The White House at the time complained about my picture, thought it was unpresidential . . . Nixon himself was pardoned four years later, and apparently that was ok by him.

Another turkey in a fowl mood as President Reagan tried to pardon him in the Rose Garden in 1982. This annual turkey presentation event officially goes back to Truman in 1947 who didn't pardon the turkey, but ate it. Apparently JFK was the first president to spare the bird. #kennerlyarchive
