Four Generations And A Pudding

View this post on Instagram

Happy Christmas! 🎄 ⛄️ Four Generations of Royal cooks! Wonderful to photograph Her Majesty The Queen and Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince George taking part in The Royal British Legion’s ‘Together at Christmas’ initiative - A fantastic idea that supports people who have contributed SO much 🙏🏻 The initiative is designed to provide extra support to the Armed Forces and veteran communities at annual festive ‘get togethers’ across the charity’s network of outreach centres. Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses are pictured preparing special Christmas puddings in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace in December. The four generations of the Royal Family represent a cross-section of those supported by the Legion, from the children of service personnel, to Second World War veterans. The puddings will become the centrepieces of next year’s get togethers, and form part of 99 puddings distributed across the charity’s network in the UK and the Commonwealth - also marking The Royal British Legion’s 99th year.

A charming, and unusual, picture of four generations of British royalty. Based on the way everyone's dressed, Charles and William in suits and ties, Her Majesty and Prince George in all white and with not an apron in sight, I'm guessing they aren't actually responsible for producing the Christmas puddings. Still, it's a lovely picture and for a good cause. And if you've been wondering why William and George arrived at The Queen's traditional holiday lunch earlier this week in a car separate from Kate, Charlotte and Louis, and I admit I kind of was, this is why. The picture was taken at Buckingham Palace in the morning before the lunch. Read more here.

The official Royal Family account also posted some pictures from the event:

Happy Birthday To Prince Charles - Updated

Prince Charles turns 70 tomorrow and this official picture was released to mark the occasion.

Update. A fascinating montage of Charles's 70 years on this earth. Diana has mostly been erased from the narrative, but there is a quick look at a picture of her with Charles and the boys when they were young:

Update #2. The future king and (I'm pretty sure) queen looking very glamorous as they celebrate the prince's 70th birthday:

Another (Sort Of) Royal Wedding

Remember this?

Issue dated July 7, 1986

Prince William turned four on June 21, 1986; one month later he served as a pageboy at Uncle Andrew's wedding to Sarah Ferguson. Now it's his kids' turn. Kate's sister Pippa is getting married on May 20 and her royal niece and nephew are in the wedding party. George will be two months shy of four years old, Charlotte will have just turned two on May 2. Will they steal the show? Almost certainly, and they'll probably look way cooler than William did during his "official debut:"

Prince Harry is also attending, either with or without girlfriend Meghan Markle. I've seen articles saying that of course she'll be there, indicating the strength of the relationship, but there is also reporting that Pippa is sticking to a strict "No Ring, No Bring" policy. Will Harry and Meghan eventually go the distance and tie the knot? No way to know, but once royal in-law Pippa is married, royal romantics will turn their eyes to Harry and wonder longingly, when, Harry? When?

After all, Harry is now older than his father Charles was when he married Diana. At some point soon it will be time to get on with it, if not with Meghan then with someone else. In the meantime, now that Kensington Palace has confirmed the royal kids' participation in Pippa's wedding, will she get a People cover story? It wouldn't surprise me.

A New Picture Of Prince George

Sunday morning update: People has a side-by-side comparison of George and William at approximately the same age, and yes, George is definitely a chip off the old block. On the other hand, even 31 years later, little Will's outfit is way cooler than Prince George's strange getup.

Original post:

A new picture of Prince George, who's now about 17 months old. CNN notes that he's in short pants and knee socks, saying it's a look some may love and some may dismiss as rather twee. Me? Twee. Maybe it's the vest, or the socks, but to my American eyes the little prince looks a little over-dressed. Or maybe that's just how one looks when one is a little prince. Either way he's cute as can be.

Depressing

Jessica Simpson Marries Eric Johnson: Inside Her Wedding Ceremony

Jessica Simpson gets the cover nod this week and I have to say, it's depressing. I had her on my guessing game list but in my mind she was a longshot. I would have said she was more or less "over" in terms of pop culture relevance. She's also just not very interesting. The hot car death and soccer goalie Tim Howard get topline teases. I haven't heard anything at all about the Alaska family that vanished, or about Robert Downey Jr.'s son.

Over at The Royalist, Tom Sykes has a preview of Vanity Fair's August cover, starring Prince George. He turns 1 this month, so think back. Do you remember the "great Kate wait?"

Prince George Walking

Prince George goes on his first public walkabout at Cirencester Park Polo Club, Gloucestershire

Looks like Prince George is getting ready to walk, a few weeks before his first birthday. These are some of the cute new pictures of the prince, taken at a polo ground on Father's Day. It's been 10 weeks since People used George on the cover; if that issue, dated April 9, sold well, we'll probably see George out front again this week.

In the "Things I Don't Care About" category, Miss North West turned one yesterday.
