This made me smile this morning:

It reminded me of this:

People Are In It For The Cheese, Anyway

View this post on Instagram
Wanna know the HACK that has saved me the most time & money this year??? Faux fruit! Yes...you heard me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The first time, I was in a total bind and couldn’t find the fresh grapes I desperately needed for a shoot. So I popped into @michaelsstores, hoping they’d have some realistic vines. Low & behold, it worked and you guys didn’t notice!! So I’ve been using them on and off ever since. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You can even use them when serving guests so long as you tell everyone which fruit is real and which is faux. People are usually in it for the cheese anyway. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SWIPE for labels & a closer look. And here are some tips for ensuring it looks as real as possible: 🍇 Choose realistic varieties like grapes, pears or crab apples. The oranges & lemons tend to look extremely waxy 🍇 Wash thoroughly before placing next to edible items. You don’t know who could have man-handled them at the store. 🍇 Cut off the fake leaves. They’re usually a dead giveaway. 🍇 Put a small sign next to the chessboard letting your guests know to avoid any accidents or unhappy surprises. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The more you can supplement faux fruit on your board, the more you save AND the less grocery trips you need to make. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Head on over to IG Stories for the full STEP-BY-STEP and a closer look at how realistic these guys look. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️AND IF YOU READ THUS FAR... #AprilFools ⭐️⭐️⭐️

When Erin Met Jago...

From Goodreads:

Erin tried to bury her heart in her work.

When British author Erin Page went to Florida to interview Jago Miles, star of a TV soap opera, she expected to meet a vain celebrity. Instead, Jago intrigued her.

In spite of his generous salary the bland actor didn't own a car or a house. Wednesdays he disappeared, no one knew where. And from the beginning he declared parts of his life ''off limits'' to Erin's questions.

As she uncovered the truth, Erin was irresistibly attracted to Jago. But, she told herself, emotional involvement would jeopardize her work--and her heart.

"bachelor in paradise" was first published on July 11, 1986.

Cakegate

Did you hear about cakegate? If not, you can read about it here, and this is the cake in question:

Funniest part? It's not a real cake. Except for a small slice at the bottom, the whole thing is made of styrofoam.

Just A Little Doggie Singing

This made me laugh, a nice change from the nasty and toxic election. For the next 23 days I'm going to do everything I can to ignore it all (other than voting, of course.)

The View From Air Force One

A crew member stands in the door of Air Force One as he waits for stairs to arrive Thursday, January 8, at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. President Barack Obama was returning from a two-day trip to Michigan and Arizona.

Don't worry, this AF1 crew member isn't getting ready to jump, the plane is on the ground. He's just waiting for the airstairs so President Obama can disembark.

Exploding Watermelons

I always enjoy an exploding watermelon. On the 4th of July the traditional method is with fireworks, but if you haven't bought your sparklers yet, try rubber bands.

This video uses science for some fun on the 4th. The first minute or so is about Mentos and Diet 7-up, then comes the good stuff with the melons.

Happy 4th of July!

A Long Time To Sit

What's the world's longest scheduled airline flight? At one time, in years past, I think it was San Francisco to Sydney and I felt a tiny little measure of pride because I've flown that flight. And yes, it's a very, very long time to sit in an aluminum tube. According to United.com the flight covers 7,417 miles and takes exactly 15 hours. These days, as shown in the chart above, that flight doesn't even make the top 20.

Number one on the list is Sydney to Dallas, at 8,578 miles. I checked the Qantas website and that flight, traveling eastbound, is scheduled at 15 hours and 35 minutes. The reverse flight, from Dallas to Sydney is identical in length but takes longer to fly, coming in at 16 hours and 50 minutes. Yikes.

Will non-stop flights keep getting longer and longer? Possibly not. At some point traveling around the earth you reach the point where you've started to double back and it's shorter to reverse the flight and go the other way.

Lots of fun with llamas. On the other hand, I have nothing to say about the dress.

Congratulations and lots of tail wagging to Miss P, the wonderful beagle who won the Westminster Dog Show last night, apparently in a bit of an upset. Could she be any cuter?

No Pink For The Ducks

Embedded image permalink

Here, from Nike, are the uniforms Oregon (on the left) and Ohio State will wear in the championship game on Jan. 12. I didn't really think the Ducks would be in pink, but still, all-white looks kinda boring to me. Oh well. Go Ducks!

Update: Here's a closer look. I guess they're officially called "special edition Mach Speed uniforms."

Go Ducks!

Sunday morning update: At first I thought the bobble-head in the video above was coach Mark Helfrich, but upon further reflection I've decided it's Phil Knight. To read about his importance in Duck-world, click here. And if you think the Ducks' beloved mascot bears a slight resemblance to Donald Duck, you're right. It's part of a marketing agreement with Disney; read some of the history here.

Original post:
Lots of fun with The Oregon Duck. For long-time Duck fans, or anyone who has a little Oregon in their heart, it's hard to explain how cool it is to see the U of O football team having so much success. In particular I'm enjoying the "character wins out over entitled cluelessness" narrative around the 59-20 trouncing of Florida State.

Now it's on to the National Championship on Monday, January 12. (Oh, no, it's on at the same time as episode 2 of The Bach. Tape the show, watch the game? Probably.)

I have a cousin who's a student at Alabama and all night Thursday during the Rose and Sugar Bowls, many family members were tweeting, texting and Facebooking up a storm about how much fun it would be to have an Oregon/Alabama final game. Alas, it wasn't to be and now it's the Ducks v. the Bucks. Go Ducks!

More fun with The Duck:

Final thought for now: what will they wear? I haven't seen any official info about what the championship game uniform will look like, so for now I'm hoping for pink and black with duck feathers on the shoulders.
