Elizabeth Warren Is Running

In a post headlined "She's Running," Talking Points Memo says that Elizabeth Warren is running for president in 2020:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Monday took the first major step toward launching a widely anticipated campaign for the presidency, hoping her reputation as a populist fighter can help her navigate a Democratic field that could include nearly two dozen candidates.

... In an email to supporters, Warren said she’d more formally announce a campaign plan early in 2019. (Read the post here.) 

I'm moving her from the Potential list to the I'm Running list.

The Year In People Covers

Here they are, every weekly cover published this year, starting with Hugh Jackman on the issue dated January 1 and ending with Kate and Meghan on the issue dated December 31. The big story of the year, no surprise, was Meghan Markle's path from engagement to wedding to mother-to-be. Meghan was featured as the main cover story 11 times this year, five times by herself, three times with Harry, twice with Kate and once with Kate, Camilla and the Queen. Coming in second were stories about HGTV stars, two featuring Chip and Joanna Gaines and one each featuring Joanna by herself, Christina El Moussa and Drew Scott.

Four covers featured Dead Celebrities, current (Kate Spade & Anthony Bourdain, Aretha Franklin and John McCain) and past (Whitney Houston.) There were three Celebrity Weddings (Drew Scott, Harry & Meghan, and Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas,) one Celebrity Divorce (Jennifer Aniston) and two New Baby covers (William & Kate and Chip & Joanna Gaines.) Most of the covers featured women or couples, only five featured a man pictured alone (Hugh Jackman, Tom Cruise, John McCain, Idris Elba and Michael Bublé.)

Note that all of the above refers to main cover stories. There were also dozens of what I call sidebar headlines, covering everything from the Getty Family Curse to Colin Firth's Shocking Marriage Secrets to the lives and loves of the various Real Housewives. No one in the Kardashian-Jenner family rated a main cover this year, although Khloé, Kylie and Brody got sidebar headlines, and there was only one story featuring a member of the Trump family, a small sidebar headline about Don Jr.'s divorce. (See it here.) In particular I continue to be intrigued by the fact that People is completely ignoring Melania.
