Four covers featured Dead Celebrities, current (Kate Spade & Anthony Bourdain, Aretha Franklin and John McCain) and past (Whitney Houston.) There were three Celebrity Weddings (Drew Scott, Harry & Meghan, and Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas,) one Celebrity Divorce (Jennifer Aniston) and two New Baby covers (William & Kate and Chip & Joanna Gaines.) Most of the covers featured women or couples, only five featured a man pictured alone (Hugh Jackman, Tom Cruise, John McCain, Idris Elba and Michael Bublé.)
Note that all of the above refers to main cover stories. There were also dozens of what I call sidebar headlines, covering everything from the Getty Family Curse to Colin Firth's Shocking Marriage Secrets to the lives and loves of the various Real Housewives. No one in the Kardashian-Jenner family rated a main cover this year, although Khloé, Kylie and Brody got sidebar headlines, and there was only one story featuring a member of the Trump family, a small sidebar headline about Don Jr.'s divorce. (See it here.) In particular I continue to be intrigued by the fact that People is completely ignoring Melania.
