Blogging The Bach'ette: The Men Told All

Good morning, Rosebuds! Last night's Men Tall All episode was actually pretty entertaining, unlike some in the past, and we're down to the finale, now just six days away. Thoughts:

The show started off with Our Host Chris Harrison calling out the online bullying Kaitlyn's been subjected to and I agree that it's reprehensible and I'm sure Harrison was sincere in his outrage. On the other hand, the controversies surrounding Kaitlyn and the show in general have been like manna from heaven for the producers and the network. It's kept the show in the center of the pop culture universe and helped to generate strong ratings, and in TVland, that's all that really matters. Producers knew when they selected her that Kaitlyn was edgy and a bit of a loose cannon, which translates to "not boring." Don't for a minute believe that the people who make money on this show have any regrets about Kaitlyn's controversies.

(Note, this paragraph contains a spoiler)
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure producers would prefer that Kaitlyn had been better at keeping a secret, namely the name of the man she's now engaged to. It started with the Snapchat video, then last night, if you were watching carefully you saw that she slipped again. It came while she was talking with Ben H and he asked why she told Shawn that she had slept with Nick. She says that she felt guilt about it and it was a mistake, then says "He knows I feel that way." Notice the tense - he "knows," meaning right now, a pretty good indication that she is currently in contact with/engaged to Shawn. Chris Harrison's eyebrows shot up right after she said it, and he gave a sharp look to the left as if making horrified eye contact with an off-screen producer, "Oops, damn, there she goes again." As I said before, she's a loose cannon...

Anyway, the rest of the show was mostly the usual stuff. The guys who looked (or in some cases were edited to look) like jerks during the show did their best to convince us that they're not really jerks now. Presumably some want to come across as charmingly as possible with the goal of being selected at the next Bachelor, but Ben H would appear to be the front runner for the job. There was lots of chat on Twitter about how much he looks like former Bachelor Jason Mesnick:

Finally, for right now, as The Bach'ette winds down, Bachelor In Paradise cranks up. I didn't watch last summer (really,) but I'll probably check it out this year. Just another guilty pleasure during the dog days of summer here in Chicagoland. Meet me back here next week, same Bach time, same Bach channel, for Kaitlyn's big finale.
