After a sidebar story three weeks ago People gives the Oscar Pistorious trial the full True Crime/Dead Celebrity treatment this week. Victim Reeva Steenkamp wasn't actually a celebrity here in America while she was alive, but she's certainly a Dead Gorgeous Blonde Woman now and that's enough for People. Media Literacy question: Would the trial be getting this much media coverage in the U.S. if Steenkamp had been only average looking? Answer: almost certainly not.
I've been expecting a Jennifer Aniston story for a while now (she turned 45, she's still engaged but not yet married,) although I can't imagine what "secrets" she might share. If her beauty secrets include such non-secrets as keeping skin moisturized or drinking lots of water, remember that she's a paid endorser for Aveeno and Smart Water.
