Issue dated March 12, 2018: Oprah Winfrey
I got three out of the four cover headlines this week, although I wonder if the Marketing team for A Winkle In Time is a little miffed this morning: "It was supposed to be about the movie..." The teaser article at people.com says that a special edition called The Complete Guide to A Wrinkle In Time will be published March 2, so the regular issue cover is all about Oprah, barely mentioning the movie at all.
Arie gets a headline a week before his big finale. Will it really be the most shocking Bachelor finale ever? Reality Steve says yes; if you want to read the spoilers, click here. Arie and his new fiancee should be the main cover story next week.
Finally, thank you, People, for ignoring the latest Duggar spawn.

The Guessing Game
Wednesday morning, update #2: See the new cover here.
Monday morning update: A few additions:
Lisa Marie Presley: Apparently the $100 million she inherited from her father's estate is almost completely gone
The Bachelor: "I know what you did," said Caroline at the Women Tell All session, which aired last night, and now ABC is teasing something big. The finale airs a week from tonight, and if tradition holds, Arie and his new fiancee will be the main cover story on the issue that is posted next week (on Wednesday, March 7.) Will People tease the big story with a cover headline this week? Possibly
Duggars: One of the girls just had a baby, but please, People, PLEASE, don't put anyone from this wretched family on the cover
Heather Locklear: Arrested on suspicion of domestic violence
Bill Cosby: His daughter dies at age 44
Original post:
What will be on the cover of People this week? Just a few guesses:
Michelle Obama: Details about her memoir, to be published in November, have started to come out
Ivanka Trump: Represents the U.S. at the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympic games
The teen-agers from Margery Stoneman Douglas High School: Making a real difference in the gun rights debate
Olympians: The games are over, some new stars are born
A Wrinkle In Time: The movie of the beloved book, starring Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling, opens a week from Friday
Oscars: The big show is a week from tonight, Jimmy Kimmel is hosting, they really don't want any screw-ups (remember "envelope-gate?")
Roseanne: The reboot premieres March 27
Meghan Markle: An anonymous blog written when she was an up-and-coming actress?
Monica Lewinsky: In a new essay for Vanity Fair, Lewinsky reflects on the scandal from 1998

Jennifer Aniston
Issue dated March 5, 2018: Jennifer Aniston
My first guess was right and I admit I'm a little surprised. When Aniston's divorce was first announced I figured it would be the main cover story. Then the Florida shooting story, including the outrage and activism of the survivors, continued to grow throughout the week and I assumed it would be the main story, with Jennifer as a sidebar. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall as People editors made the final decision about which story to feature more prominently. It's also a bit unusual for there to be only two cover headlines and I'm surprised that so far, People has stayed away from any Olympic coverage, not to mention all the colorful personalities currently populating Donald Trump's universe.
Regarding Aniston, if it seems as if we've been down this road before, you're right. It was 13 years ago:

Mittens Is Back! (But Where's Rafalca?)
Update #2: Jonathan Swan, at Axios, provides the backstory on why Trump endorsed Romney:
Read the article here.
Mid-morning update: CNN helpfully provides a few more of Donald's mean tweets about Mittens:
Original post
During the 2012 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney took some heat for accepting Donald Trump's endorsement. How did it come about? After the election, Romney-watcher, reporter and fellow Mormon McKay Coppins laid it out in an article for Buzzfeed. He starts with this:
...includes this:
Trump didn't like Mitt very much either, at that point:
Then, to my surprise, Mitt's surprise and pretty much everyone else's surprise, The Donald was elected president. In his never-ending quest to obtain a government job, this time Secretary of State, Mitt set aside his real feelings and went to New York to kiss Trump's... ring.
I've been calling people in the
White House and sources close to Mitt Romney to find out the backstory behind
the Trump endorsement of Romney.
What I've learned: Both sides
agree Romney, who has a tumultuous history with Trump, didn't ask for
an endorsement. A senior administration official told me the endorsement
"is something the President wanted to do. He proactively reached out
and Mitt Romney happily accepted.”
A source close to Romney told me:
“He didn’t ask. Hasn’t asked anyone
outside of Utah."
— Source close
to Romney
Between the lines: Trump
didn't have much of a choice. Romney will almost certainly win, likely with
minimal competition.
So Trump had three choices: He could
either endorse Romney, stay silent, or oppose the man he likes to say “choked
like a dog” in the 2012 election. Either of the latter two options would have
resulted in cable news blaring "Utah rejects Trump" headlines after
an eventual Romney win. Now Trump can claim credit for Romney's victory, and be
on the side of a winner.
This lines up with the smartest
take I've heard so far, from a GOP source who knows Romney well and
predicted this months ago:
“This was totally
predictable. The President who (usually) has good political instincts got
ahead of any stories (which Press is dying to write) about a Romney victory
(primary) being a repudiation of Trump, by endorsing him so now Trump can take
credit for win and say it’s because he endorsed!"

Mid-morning update: CNN helpfully provides a few more of Donald's mean tweets about Mittens:
Mitt Romney, who totally blew an election that should have been won and whose tax returns made him look like a fool, is now playing tough guy— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 24, 2016
When Mitt Romney asked me for my endorsement last time around, he was so awkward and goofy that we all should have known he could not win!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 24, 2016
.@MittRomney was a disaster candidate who had no guts and choked! Romney is a total joke, and everyone knows it!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 5, 2016

During the 2012 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney took some heat for accepting Donald Trump's endorsement. How did it come about? After the election, Romney-watcher, reporter and fellow Mormon McKay Coppins laid it out in an article for Buzzfeed. He starts with this:
The Romney campaign obituaries
that will litter the Internet over the coming days and weeks are bound to offer
varied causes of death: tactical mistakes, candidate gaffes, shifting
demographics, or some poisonous mix of bad luck and blunders.
But perhaps the
campaign's most fatal mistake was its tortured, 16-month quest to win the
affection of rank-and-file conservatives via their most boisterous mouthpiece —
at the expense of almost everything else. (Yes, the boisterous mouthpiece is Trump.)
...includes this:
Trump's appeal to the Republican base was undeniable, and, to
many on Romney's staff, utterly perplexing. Among the savvy sophisticates who
populated the campaign headquarters in Boston, Trump was viewed as a joke and a
blowhard — an outrageous figure whose fixation on Obama's birth certificate
was, at once, bizarre and off-putting, according to campaign sources. (Yes, the "joke and a blowhard" is Trump.)
...and finishes with this:
…another person close to Trump
said the multimillionaire's view of Romney was and is relatively similar to how
much of the Republican base views him.
"Trump was obviously always
genuinely anti-Obama, but he bought into the idea that as a moderate, Romney
had the best chance of beating Obama," the source said. "Given the
choices he had, he thought Romney."
Would they stay in touch now that the
election's over?
"Trump doesn’t like to be associated with failure,"
the source responded. "Trump's a winner. My guess is today he’s pretty
disappointed." (Yes, the failure is Mitt Romney.)
The rest of the article is interesting too, you can read it here.
When Trump himself ran in 2016, Mitt was one of his harshest critics, giving this speech, which by-the-way, IMHO, reflect's Mitt's real feelings about Trump:
Romney also insisted, in a tweet dated March 3, 2016, that if he had known how truly horrible Donald Trump really is, he would never have accepted the endorsement:
If Trump had said 4 years ago the things he says today about the KKK, Muslims, Mexicans, disabled, I would NOT have accepted his endorsement— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) March 3, 2016
Trump didn't like Mitt very much either, at that point:
Mitt Romney, who was one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics, is now pushing me on tax returns. Dope!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2016
Then, to my surprise, Mitt's surprise and pretty much everyone else's surprise, The Donald was elected president. In his never-ending quest to obtain a government job, this time Secretary of State, Mitt set aside his real feelings and went to New York to kiss Trump's... ring.
Was this really just petty and vindictive Donald humiliating Romney for the bad things he said about Donald during the campaign? Many people think so, including me.
Finally, last week Mittens announced he's running to be the junior senator from Utah. Trump initially wasn't thrilled, trying to convince 83-year-old incumbent Orrin Hatch to reconsider and run again. Now that it's official, Trump has endorsed Romney:
.@MittRomney has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah. He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to @OrrinHatch, and has my full support and endorsement!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 20, 2018
Apparently Mitt no longer cares about the things Trump said about the KKK, Muslims, Mexicans and the disabled, because he happily accepted Trump's endorsement, again:
Thank you Mr. President for the support. I hope that over the course of the campaign I also earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah.— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) February 20, 2018
In August, 2012, The Economist ran a cover story titled: "So Mitt, what do you really believe?" In the story, they pointed out that "nobody knows who this strange man really is." It's still true.

Wednesday morning update: See the new cover here.
Monday evening update: Fergie. Her artistic risk-taking with the National Anthem bombed at the NBA All Star game.
Original post:
What will be on the cover of People this week? The Florida school shooting will almost certainly be the main story, featuring the 17 victims and possibly the inspirational student survivors who are fighting for gun control. Other possibilities:
Jennifer Aniston: Divorcing 2nd husband Justin Theroux. If the shooting hadn't happened, this would be my best guess for the main cover story
Olympians: Including Adam Rippon, Nathan Chen, Chloe Kim and all the others
Amy Schumer: A surprise wedding
The Playboy model and/or the porn star: Stormy Daniels says she now feels free to tell her story; the New Yorker story about Karen McDougal upset Melania so much she wouldn't fly in the same helicopter with POTUS Friday afternoon
Melania: One of these days...
Evan Bass and Carly Waddell: The Bachelor In Paradise stars' first daughter was born
Mitt Romney: Mittens is back! He's running to be a senator from Utah
Bristol Palin: Husband Dakota Meyer files for divorce. Bristol scored a sidebar cover headline in the issue dated July 13, 2015, when she cancelled their planned wedding, then announced her pregnancy a few weeks later. After marrying in May, 2016, they're now getting a divorce after moving to Texas and having two children together

When Did Trump Start Running For President?
I met with @realDonaldTrump on May 9, 2011 at 3PM at his office in Trump Tower. On his desk he had a large binder labeled “Iowa,” and on a side table he had “Trump For President” yard signs. He told me he was running for President in 2016.— Michael Skolnik (@MichaelSkolnik) February 18, 2018
I would testify this under oath.
Kremlin propagandist Konstantin Rykov said on Facebook, right after Trump's 2016 win, that his role in the plot to make Trump POTUS—which included Artem Klyushin, a member of Trump's entourage in Moscow in 2013—"started 7 November 2012."— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) February 18, 2018

Wow, is it possible that this tweet from POTUS isn't quite accurate?
Funny how the Fake News Media doesn’t want to say that the Russian group was formed in 2014, long before my run for President. Maybe they knew I was going to run even though I didn’t know!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 17, 2018

Melting Down
This is one of several unhinged tweets the president has sent out in the last several hours:
And here's some of the reaction from my Twitter feed:Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 18, 2018
We have to be very clear about what happened this morning: the president woke up, went on Twitter, and raved like a madman. No other description of what happened this morning will do.— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) February 18, 2018
Incomprehensible pain and loss at a high school, yet again, and it’s children who are the leading voices for action. The President, The Porn Star And The Playboy Model
Update #4: Another reporter weighs in:
Update #2: I guess this explains it. POTUS went to Andrews via Marine One, Melania went via motorcade. It still feels off.
And what's with "Melania's motorcade?" Can't the President and the First Lady travel from the White House together?

Update #3: It's that old bugaboo, "scheduling and logistics." According to Stephanie Grisham, the First Lady's communications director, "With her schedule, it was easier to meet him on the plane." I have to ask, what schedule, exactly? What exactly does Melania do all day long?My primary beat focus is @FLOTUS. I have learned not to believe in Melania Trump coincidences. The story is based on a new article at The New Yorker titled "Donald Trump, A Playboy Model and A System For Concealing Infidelity." The model in question is named Karen McDougal and she apparently took notes:
The
interactions that McDougal outlines in the document share striking similarities
with the stories of other women who claim to have had sexual relationships with
Trump, or who have accused him of propositioning them for sex or sexually
harassing them. McDougal describes their affair as entirely consensual. But her
account provides a detailed look at how Trump and his allies used clandestine
hotel-room meetings, payoffs, and complex legal agreements to keep
affairs—sometimes multiple affairs he carried out simultaneously—out of the
press.
Like Stormy Daniels, she was also apparently paid money to keep quiet:
On November 4, 2016, four
days before the election, the Wall Street Journal reported that
American Media, Inc., the publisher of the National Enquirer, had
paid a hundred and fifty thousand dollars for exclusive rights to McDougal’s
story, which it never ran. Purchasing a story in order to bury it is a practice
that many in the tabloid industry call “catch and kill.” This is a favorite
tactic of the C.E.O. and chairman of A.M.I., David Pecker, who describes the
President as “a
personal friend.” As part of the agreement, A.M.I. consented to publish a
regular aging-and-fitness column by McDougal. After Trump won the Presidency,
however, A.M.I.’s promises largely went unfulfilled, according to McDougal.
Last month, the Journal reported that Trump’s
personal lawyer had negotiated a separate agreement just before the election
with an adult-film actress named Stephanie Clifford, whose screen name is
Stormy Daniels, which barred her from discussing her own affair with Trump.
Since then, A.M.I. has repeatedly approached McDougal about extending her
contract.

Stop The Presses?
When Brad and Angelina announced their divorce in September, 2016, People had just finalized a new issue with Michael Strahan on the cover. Would the Brangelina news have to wait a week? Nope. At the time the break-up announcement was like a nuclear bomb in pop culture, and People rushed out a new issue six days in advance:
Issue dated October 10, 2016
Now Jennifer Aniston has announced that her second marriage is over. Will her break-up with Justin Theroux get the same "Stop The Presses" treatment? Probably not, although it's almost certain to be the main cover story on the next issue, which would normally be posted Wednesday morning. If the new issue pops up early, I'll post it here.

Sarah Jessica Parker
Issue dated February 26, 2018: Sarah Jessica Parker
I had SJP on the Guessing Game list but not because of her marriage. (The article at people.com is tied to her 20th wedding anniversary. She's also got a book coming out later this year.) I thought People might highlight the hissing and snarling between her and Kim Cattrall. This actually looks like a cover that was planned, is Cattrall fuming this morning, seeing her rival basking in the spotlight of a favorable People cover? Probably.
Other than that, I completely struck out this week. No Olympians, no Hope Hicks or Porter ex-wives, no Omarosa. We do get another "Meghan and Harry" sidebar story, which will probably continue until the big day on May 19. Do I get half-credit for that?
See the Guessing Game post here.
Last year People was still featuring every little twitch of the Duggars; I'm very happy to report that they've stopped doing that.

Probably.

Winter Olympics Or Kung Pao Beef?
Pyeongchang is a mountainous county 110 miles southeast of Seoul in South Korea, and the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics.
P.F. Chang’s is an Asian-inspired chain restaurant with 210 U.S. locations, including ones in Chicago, Lombard, Northbrook, Orland Park and Schaumburg. (From a story at the Chicago Tribune, read it here.)

The Guessing Game
Wednesday morning update: See the new cover here.
Tuesday morning, update #2: The video I posted below is only a short snippet of Adam's interview with Mike Tirico. If I can find the whole thing I'll add it to this post.
Monday morning update: I mentioned the Olympians below but after watching the team figure skating event, I'm seeing an "a star is born" aura around skater Adam Rippon. First, he skated so well that there's been some fussing that his score was inappropriately low. Second, in his interview with host Mike Tirico he was charming and funny, so much so that video of it has now gone viral. (ESPN had some fun with words, saying Rippon displayed "authenticity without obfuscation, declaration instead of equivocation." Read it here.) Finally, as a gay man, Rippon had the guts to say that he had zero interest in meeting with our homophobic vice president. I bet Adam shows up on the cover of People, if not this week then soon. Here's the Tirico interview:
What will be on the cover of People this week? My guesses:
Hope Hicks, Rob Porter, the two ex-wives, the ex-girlfriend and/or David Sorensen: Men behaving badly at the White House
Skiffington Holderness: Current husband of Porter's first wife. He's a tiny part of the story, but with a name like Skiffington Holderness he has to be on the list
Omarosa: Says she'd never vote again for Trump again, not in a million years
John Perry Barlow: Died February 7. Grateful Dead lyricist, internet pioneer, friend to JFK Jr. (he was on the island for the wedding,) I'm surprised his death hasn't gotten more attention
Olympians: Nathan Chen, Shaun White, Bradie Tennell, Red Gerard, the Shib Sibs, etc. Some familiar stars and some new names are doing their sporty thing in PyeongChang
Elton John: Cancels May concerts to attend the royal wedding. Who else is invited, the Obamas? Fergie? Ivanka?
Rob Delaney: His 2-year-old son died of brain cancer
Ginger Zee: Her 2nd son was born Friday
Kim Cattrall and/or Sarah Jessica Parker: A nasty feud
Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir: They were the B team of skating announcers in Sochi but their hilarious commentary and affectionate chemistry got them so much attention (and spectacular ratings) that they've been promoted to prime time
Note that after the new cover is posted, correct guesses will be highlighted in green. Why? Because I can.

Help For Hope?
Mid-morning update: In case you were wondering how the president feels about all this, it's not Hope Hicks he's worried about:
Original post:
Former White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter didn't have a good week. He had to resign from his job, his reputation is ruined and the whole country knows that he couldn't qualify for a security clearance to work at the White House. Probably not a situation that would bring out the best in a violent wife-beater.
I don't particularly admire Hope Hicks but I'm sincere when I say that I fervently hope she's not getting beaten to a pulp this week-end.
Read the latest about this story here and here, and by-the-way, a second White House staffer, speechwriter David Sorensen, has also resigned due to domestic violence allegations. (A speechwriter named Sorensen? I did a little googling and as best as I can tell, he's no relation to Ted.)
Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation. Some are true and some are false. Some are old and some are new. There is no recovery for someone falsely accused - life and career are gone. Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 10, 2018

The Best And The Brightest
Last August I posted this picture, noting that all the non-elected staffers in it are now gone from the Trump administration.
Today Twitter is having fun with another staff photo, in which all of the staff members are also now gone:
Prior to today, I could have identified four out of the five individuals pictured, Sebastian Gorka, Omarosa, Anthony Scaramucci, and Corey Lewandowski. Unknown to me, and to a lot of other people, apparently, is the man standing between Omarosa and the Mooch. He's Rob Porter, and this morning he resigned from his West Wing position due to accusations of domestic violence by not one but two ex-wives. An interesting twist in the story is that Porter is said to be dating Communications Director Hope Hicks, who also is said to have dated Corey Lewandowski.

Just In Case He Thought He Was Fooling Anyone...
... with that ridiculous combover:
From Jonathan Chait at nymag.com:
From Jonathan Chait at nymag.com:
It was the worst hair day of what has been a
bad hair life. And it may seem cheap and low to mock Trump’s absurd efforts to
conceal his hair loss. But Trump is a man obsessed with image in ways that go
beyond the normal human concern with looking presentable. Image is Trump’s
moral code. He dismisses his political rivals for being short. He sees his succession
of wives as visual testament to his own status. He selects his Cabinet
on the basis of their looking the part. He conscripts the military as a prop to
bathe himself in an aura of presidential grandeur. (Read the article here.)
Aly Raisman And The Gymnastics Scandal
Issue dated February 19, 2018: Aly Raisman
I've been thinking People might do a cover story about the gymnastics scandal, although it was Raisman's fellow Olympian McKayla Maroney on my January 22 Guessing Game post. Three items from this week's GG post got sidebar headlines, Kylie, This Is Us, and Natalie Wood, although, full disclosure, I had Robert Wagner, not Natalie, on the list. Milo's This Is Us co-star Chrissy Metz got the full cover treatment last year.
See this week's Guessing Game post here, and note that I've added a new feature (yes, I'm obsessed.) Guesses that actually make the cover will be highlighted in green.

Plump, Be-wattled, With The Intellectual Horsepower Of A Toaster Oven
photo credit: Win McNamee/Getty Images North America
Rick Wilson is a conservative Republican and self-described "GOP media guy." He's not a fan of Donald Trump, and he has some fun with words in an otherwise serious article at The Daily Beast, calling the president a "statist abomination, a plump, be-wattled authoritarian-wannabe man-baby with the intellectual horsepower of a toaster oven." Wow.
He says Trump's speech in Ohio yesterday was simpering, prissy, self-indulgent, sneering, sniggling and purse-lipped. Double wow.

The Guessing Game
Monday afternoon, update #3: John Mahoney, who played Frasier's dad for 11 seasons, has died. The magazine closes tonight, so this news may not make it into this week's issue.
Monday morning, update #2: This Is Us, or one or more of its stars. Last night's Very Special Episode after the Super Bowl finally explained how Jack died.
Sunday afternoon update: Kylie Jenner announces that her daughter was born February 1.
Original post:
What will be on the cover of People this week? My guesses:
Tom Brady and/or Nick Foles: One of these guys will be the winning Super Bowl quarterback
The Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea: The Opening Ceremony is Friday night
Morgan Geyser: Sentenced to 40 years in a mental hospital for the Slender Man stabbing. Her friend Anissa Weier was sentenced to 25 years, also in a mental hospital, in December
Robert Wagner: Now considered a Person of Interest in the 1981 drowning death of his wife Natalie Wood
Justin Timberlake: Performing at the Super Bowl, 14 years after "Nipplegate"
Janet Jackson: Not invited to perform at the Super Bowl, 14 years after "Nipplegate"
Bekah Martinez: Currently a contestant on The Bachelor, she had been reported missing (It's a strange story, read about it here)
Steph Curry: His wife is pregnant with baby number three
Cardi B: Says she's not pregnant, just getting fat

Trump's Hair And $1.50 A Week
Sunday afternoon update: Yes, Melania did go to Florida with the president, and they look as happy together as always.
Original post:

Original post:
Trump celebrates Rasmussen poll that reports a 49 percent approval rating. https://t.co/BnPpyZtCOX pic.twitter.com/IOt145wBDu— Slate (@Slate) February 3, 2018
I don't care about the Rasmussen poll, I just like to snark about the hair, which is charmingly tousled in this picture. Recent pictures of the POTUS confirm my belief that he's not having much fun as president.
And do you remember this picture?
It's Donald and Melania "enjoying" the Super Bowl last year, and that was without any mean tabloid gossip about Donald and payouts to a porn star. Donald (and presumably Melania) are in Florida again this week-end, will they release another "having fun at our Super Bowl party" picture? Stay tuned.
And one more thing. Really, Paul Ryan? $1.50 a week? Not $1.50 an hour, $1.50 a week? Really? I can't post the actual tweet because the Speaker of the House deleted it, but screen shots live forever (and he casually doesn't mention that he got a $500,000 donation from the Koch family):
Guess someone told Paul Ryan you shouldn’t go around praising yourself for giving a working person an extra $1.50 a week — because he deleted this tweet. pic.twitter.com/JmrYpqvJhv— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) February 3, 2018
How out-of-touch do you have to be to think that bragging about a $1.50/week tax cut is a good idea?
Because I Have To...
If every human on twitter knows you wrote this because you misspelled there, what do you think the mueller team knows about you sir? Keep doing you and we will all be fine. https://t.co/3lBmyPbWUJ— Nicolle Wallace (@NicolleDWallace) February 3, 2018
And this is the tweet she's referring to:
This memo totally vindicates “Trump” in probe. But the Russian Witch Hunt goes on and on. Their was no Collusion and there was no Obstruction (the word now used because, after one year of looking endlessly and finding NOTHING, collusion is dead). This is an American disgrace!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 3, 2018
We know, Donald. You meant to say "There" was no Collusion...
David Axelrod weighed in too:
It “totally” did not. Not even close. The broader question is, why is this man so panicked? And to what lengths will he go to sully or derail a probe he obviously finds threatening? https://t.co/voxSEcaoWk— David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) February 3, 2018
In my mind, these two tweets, from Wallace and Axelrod, sum up the situation concisely. What does Robert Mueller know and why is POTUS so freaked out about it? Of course, the answer to the second half of the question is contained in the first half. What Mueller knows, or probably knows or will know soon is exactly what the president is so freaked out about. He's not acting like a man with nothing to hide.
