What to say about Bruce Jenner? It's easy to mock the Kardashians, and I've certainly had fun with that here at Writing The World, but if Bruce really is transgender and in the process of transitioning, he's entitled to do it with dignity. As the New York Times points out in a story titled "The Bruce Jenner story goes from gossip to news," with this People cover the story has gone mainstream; my concern is that it's all still "unofficial." His mother is being quoted as saying she's "proud" of him, Kim K is supportive, and a "source close to the family" is the only person quoted in the People article, (or at least the online version. I haven't read the story in the actual magazine.) There's even talk of an interview with Diane Sawyer and yes, another reality show documenting Bruce's journey.
It's all fascinating to watch and I can't help but wonder if Jenner is wishing he could retreat a bit from the bright lights of the Kardashian spotlight. That's probably not possible, that ship has sailed. You bet I'm gong to be watching to see how this all plays out.
