This Day in History, 2002: The Premiere Of The Bachelor

Two years ago I wrote a post on The Bachelor's 15th anniversary, you can read it here.

Where do things stand with the Bach franchise now? There have been 23 Bachelors (well, actually, 22 men have been the Bachelor, Brad Womack got to do it twice):
  1. Alex Michel
  2. Aaron Buerge
  3. Andrew Firestone
  4. Bob Guiney
  5. Jesse Palmer
  6. Byron Velvick
  7. Charlie O'Connell
  8. Travis Stork
  9. Lorenzo Borghese
  10. Andrew Baldwin
  11. Brad Womack (the first time around)
  12. Matt Grant
  13. Jason Mesnick
  14. Jake Pavelka
  15. Brad Womack (second try)
  16. Ben Flajnik
  17. Sean Lowe
  18. Juan Pablo Galavais
  19. Chris Soules
  20. Ben Higgins
  21. Nick Viall
  22. Arie Luyendyk, Jr.
  23. Colton Underwood
... and 15 Bachelorettes:
  1. 2003 Trista Rehn
  2. 2004 Meredith Phillips
  3. 2005 Jen Schefft
  4. 2008 Deanna Pappas
  5. 2009 Jillian Harris
  6. 2010 Ali Fedotowsky
  7. 2011 Ashley Hebert
  8. 2012 Emily Maynard
  9. 2013 Desiree Hartsock
  10. 2014 Andi Dorfman
  11. 2015 Kaitlyn Bristowe
  12. 2016 JoJo Fletcher
  13. 2017 Rachel Lindsay
  14. 2018 Becca Kufrin
  15. 2019 Hannah Brown (currently filming)
One Bachelor, Sean Lowe and three Bachelorettes, Trista Rehn, Ashley Hebert and DesirĂ©e Hartsock, are married to the person they got engaged to at the end of their season; two Bachelor in Paradise couples, Jade and Tanner, and Carly and Evan are also married with children. Two bachelors, Jason Mesnick and Arie Luyendyk Jr., dumped their winner and married their runner-up. One man, Colton Underwood and three women, JoJo Fletcher, Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin, continue to be engaged to their winner and BIP couple Ashley I and Jared are also engaged. Everything about this show is silly to the point of being ridiculous but for what it's worth, so far there have been no Bachelor divorces.

If anyone had said, back in 2002, that this show would still be on the air in 2019, and not just on the air but thriving and growing, they would have been laughed out of the room. Will it last another 17 years? Probably not but who knows. Meet me back here on May 13 for Hannah's season.
