Writing about the world as I see it...
View this post on Instagram Baku, Azerbaijan 2005. Reporter Jeff Zeleny and I had accompanied Senators Richard Lugar and Barack Obama on a Congressional delegation trip to Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan (I spelled it correctly twice already!) It was Lugar’s annual trip to inspect the dismantling of weapons—nuclear, biological and conventional—at sites across the former Soviet Union. And he had brought along the new Senator from Illinois. In Azerbaijan, they also met with Peace Corps volunteers and then held this press conference. Already, I was making photographs with the thought that someday Senator Obama might become President Obama. I thought this scene—with all the media microphones thrust in front of Sen. Lugar and only one in front of Sen. Obama—might be kind of amusing in retrospect. A post shared by Pete Souza (@petesouza) on Mar 10, 2019 at 10:54am PDT
