Blake Shelton

Mid-morning update:  I often say that People loves a good celebrity divorce and it continues to be true. This is actually the second cover story devoted to the Blake/Miranda divorce; the first was dated August 3:

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert Divorce: What Went Wrong?

I also have my usual media literacy reminder about the new cover story. With headline language including "more details" and a quote ("I'm in a good place") readers are clearly supposed to think that People scored an actual interview with Shelton. Based on the teaser story at people.com however, this is almost certainly not the case. All the info in the online article is attributed to a "close friend of the country singer," and "another pal," a good indication that Shelton did not, in fact, "open up" about his divorce to the magazine.

Blake Shelton Moving On: 'He's Not Someone to Sit Around'

Not much to say about this week's cover, except that I had been expecting that the Oregon shootings might be the main story. (I'm surprised, in a good way, that People chose not to feature Jim Carrey's ex-girlfriend, who apparently committed suicide a few days ago.) As for the Shonda Rhimes sidebar, People loves a weight loss story, but the Shonda story was posted on the website a few days ago and can you guess how she lost all that weight? Sensible eating and exercise, what a surprise.

There's also a Bristol Palin story on the website today, although poor Bristol didn't rate a cover mention. Apparently she's vacationing in Hawaii at 7 months pregnant, accompanied by her first child Tripp and her younger brother Trig. (What do you suppose she'll name the new baby? Twig? Twilight? Tron? The possibilities boggle the mind.) I admit I'm still curious about the baby-to-be, and more specifically, who the proud daddy-to-be might be. Is it ex-fiancé Dakota Meyer? Probably, but why the secrecy? As I've said before the whole thing is just weird. (Read what I was thinking when the pregnancy was first announced here.)  If you're curious, here's the picture:
