May?

At 10.00 p.m. these are the three top headlines at cnn.com:

Dubious Fox report may have led Trump to attack Obama

Soccer team may need to learn to scuba dive to escape

Embattled FBI agent may ignore House subpoena

It's not that big of a deal but I was stuck by the triple use of the word "may." It makes all three headlines sound tentative (or wishy-washy.) I'm curious to see if they're still there in the morning.

Fun With Headlines

Headline writers at CNN.com are having some fun this morning:

President spent 77 minutes at his campaign rally to deliver fact-free retellings of recent historical events

"Total eclipse of the facts" (A quote from anchor Don Lemon)

On a more serious note, there's also this:

Former national intelligence director questions Trump's fitness for office
This isn't the first "Is he fit?" article I've seen and there are bound to be more.

Update:
Trump in Arizona shows just how unfit he is Jennifer Rubin at the Washington Post

Lazy Headlines, Part 2

At 7.30 p.m. Wednesday night, People.com headline writers are once again phoning it in:
My first post about this is here

Lazy Headlines

These four stories are currently posted at people.com:

  • Jake Gyllenhaal Opens Up About Heath Ledger's Death
  • MSNBC Anchor Tamron Hall Opens Up About Her Sister's Unsolved Murder
  • Janice Dickinson Opens Up About Breast Cancer Struggle
  • Elizabeth Vargas Opens Up About Her Alcoholism

What's with all the "opening up"? Every now and then a word or phrase is overused and becomes annoying. This is one of these times.

Throwback Thursday: WTF Headlines and Farting Cows

"WTF Headlines" is back! When I started the blog I would occasionally link to stories that had funny, weird or just WTF headlines. I got away from that as the blog evolved but it's back today because of this:

German Barn Explosion Caused By 90 Farting Cows

You know I can't resist a farting cows story. If you read the story, however, you'll see that it's not really funny - methane emitted by cows (and sheep), via belching or otherwise, is really a problem. I actually had two stories about this in the early days of the blog:

Sheep Belches Threaten The World
It's Not Just The Sheep

It was fun looking back to the beginning of the blog; stay tuned for updates on some of the things I thought were important back in 2009.
